The Greatest Miracle in the World

Og Mandino is one of my favorite motivational authors. His style of writing is so entertaining and easy to read…yet he is sharing some great life truths. He presents his teachings through a fable-like tale that is so engaging. By the conclusion, he has presented some of the greatest lessons in life. His most popular book, The Greatest Salesman in the World, is a tale of a poor camel boy who achieves a life of abundance. But my favorite Og book is The Greatest Miracle in the World. It’s the beautiful story of two unsuspecting friends. The message that was learned was quite simple. The greatest miracle in the world is…..YOU!

It’s Easy to Forget Our Gifts

Why is it so easy to forget the miracle that we are. Because of our life experience:

  • Unfulfilled childhood dreams
  • Failures that create self-doubt
  • Unused potential
  • Our individuality replaced by group thought
  • Misused talent

If we focus on these negatives, it’s easy to feel like a failure. We no longer recognize the person we’ve become. A person that has gone along with the crowd…to get the job, find the husband, raise a family. But along the way we forgot what makes us unique.

We Are a Unique, One of a Kind Creation

It’s time to remember who we really are. We need to get in touch with all the unique gifts we were given and live our authentic life. Because, there is nobody in the world like us…each of us is unique in every way.

Our physical appearance is one of a kind. Nobody else has the shape of our nose, eyes, or mouth. Our muscular structure is different than anybody else. W’vee got a mixture of both of our parents genes and they created someone totally different than anyone else. There is not one person in the whole universe that looks exactly like us.

The combination of talents and abilities are also unique to us. We have to learn what they are and be sure our activities make the best use of them. If you are a good communicator, perhaps you should be writing books. Or if your are good with tools and your hands, sitting behind a test isn’t the best use of your talents. You can be building houses!

Gratitude Connects Us to the Miracle that We Are

As Og Mandino points out in his book, we have so much to be thankful for. Eyes that can see, ears that hear, a heart that loves. We all have different levels of mobility but we are not rooted to one spot like a tree. We can move about and see all of the miracles around us. Our Creator gave us the ability to think, speak, pray, create, imagine, and. laugh.

But the greatest gift given to us, according to Og, is the ability to choose. There is duality in the world…but we can choose to love….or to hate. We can choose to create rather than destroy. Perseverance over quitting brings success.

Be the Miracle You Were Created To Be

Dream big, accomplish much. Know that you are more than a human being…you are a human becoming. Becoming all that you can…doing what you love, being with the people you love, creating the world that you love. Embrace your uniqueness and use it to create life that empowers you and those around you.

  1. Hey Debbie,

I rather fancy the idea of a a “Human becoming” – great post with so many truths.

We all get on our own way at times and become our own biggest stumbling block to success. If we could only realise that nothing is impossible.
I am unfortunately one of those who suffers from “Paralysis by analysis” and always trying to find the perfect solution to a problem that doesn’t exist (except possibly in my mind) or will never arise.

Have you ever seen someone succeed with an idea similar to one you had but discarded because “it wouldn’t work”? I have several times. It kills me to think of the opportunity wasted.

Og is right and so is Nike – just do it!

I haven’t read “The Greatest Miracle” and will see if the local library has it. I have “The Greatest Salesman in the World” – a truly fantastic book with a profound but simple message.

Thanks for posting – I love finding highly recommended books.

    All the best,
    Lawrence

    1. Lawrence,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. Yes, “paralysis by analysis” is a great point. It’s overthinking everything. I also have seem so many of my ideas implemented by others who just took action. But, it’s a new year with a new focus, so let’s show the world the miracle that we are. ! Since you are familiar with Og, I’m sure you will enjoy the book.

      See the Miracle in You,
      Debbie
